About the event
St. John's Lay Preaching Academy emerges from Lutheran understanding that baptism calls all believers into ministry. Rooted in Lutheran theology, this program equips faithful members with biblical exegesis skills using historical-critical methods and homiletical training emphasizing Law/Gospel distinction. Participants learn to connect ancient texts to contemporary life through the rose colored lens of God's grace.
The academy provides theological formation, practical preaching skills, and community support. Students practice sermon construction, delivery, and pastoral sensitivity while maintaining appropriate boundaries. Through worship, prayer, and fellowship, participants discover how the Holy Spirit works through ordinary people to proclaim extraordinary grace. Graduates are invited to preach at St. John's and in their own lives with confidence, on Sunday's, midweek services, and in devotional leadership, participating in God's mission of transformation.
