Be Prepared. Be Confident. Be Ready.
At St John’s, one of the most important responsibilities of our Ushers — and really, all members of our church family — is being prepared in case of an emergency. Whether it’s a medical situation during a service, a special event, or an unexpected incident, knowing what to do in those first critical moments can make all the difference.
That’s why we’re hosting First Aid Training on Saturday, March 14 at 9:00 am, and we hope you’ll make every effort to attend.
While this training is especially important for our Ushers, everyone from St John’s is invited — usher or not! Emergencies don’t wait for “qualified” people. The more prepared members we have, the safer our entire community becomes.
What You’ll Learn
The training will last approximately two hours and will be led by Cindy Staggs, who has graciously agreed to guide us through a wide range of essential, life-saving skills.
Topics will include:
Adult, child, and infant CPR
How to use an AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
Responding to severe, life-threatening external bleeding
Helping an infant who is choking
Placing someone in the Recovery Position
How to use an EpiPen during a severe allergic reaction
Recognizing and responding to head injuries
Proper use of Narcan in the event of an opioid overdose
These are practical, hands-on skills that build confidence and empower you to respond calmly and effectively when every second counts.
Why This Matters
Being prepared isn’t about expecting the worst — it’s about being ready to care for one another. First aid knowledge allows us to:
Protect and support our congregation
Respond quickly before professional help arrives
Provide comfort and reassurance during stressful situations
Serve our church community with greater confidence
When one of us is trained, we all benefit.
